Session 2: Stickies (fifah)

I must admit that i am NO computer genius. But i do use the computer on the large part of the day. Doing assignments, surfing and talking to friends. i learn pretty fast (but with practice) when faced with new software and applications. Butt i never realize that technology moves much faster than lightning!

What i learnt during Session two was that technology really evolves way faster then i thought. The Stickies activity was fun and it was engaging. The times where we use real PAPER is no longer an everyday thing. Now we use post it notes on the computer. Ive seen it before but i never realize you could actually do a mind map with the stickies. I guess it saves paper... i find that it might be a fun and engaging tool in the classroom where mind maps are a tool that we use in art to get inspired and collect our thoughts.

But having post it notes to yourself is good but it has lost that personal touch. Yes, you can have all the colours on the world with the touch of a button but it does not have the feeling that someone cares.

"Have a good day! :)" or "Please remember to pick up your socks! it stinks!" See, even writing it here on the keyboard does not evoke any feelings. So, what effects will it have on the students in the long run? But i would think having both would be beneficial to have both the computer version and the tree version right?

Cyberwellness. As we go through the issues, i realized that i had many things to learn on the computer. How much does the students know if their teacher was oblivious to all that goes on in the world of the internet?

I had a friend who was cyber bullied. It was a war of words and it affected so much to the extent that she was glued to the computer waiting for the next attack. But it soon got boring and we shut the blog down so that she could not find my friend anymore.
How are we going to better equip our students with better understanding to this pertaining to cyber bullying? How do we keep an "eye" on them without invading their private thoughts or space? Is it important to check where the students have gone through and how will one help a student if he or she was facing this situation.

As for the blog, this week i learn from Weiqiang is how to organize your thoughts in our blogs. A tedious effort but a good one. i learn how to organize the posting in the blog so that it would not be messy and that the viewer will be able to read it without frustration.

K: What I already KNOW
That computers are able to evolved much faster.

W: What I WANT TO LEARN
I would like to know how to use the tools that i learnt and how do i go about teaching this tools to the students.

L: What I LEARNED this week
i learnt how to manage the blog. Everything has its label and thus keeping it organized.

Q: What Questions I still have
But there must be some negative points to this tools, rite?
How does the softwares used be effective to the students.? How do we use our prior knowledge on computer and apply it to the classroom?
