Decided to blog since my memory is still fresh from today's demo presentation. So basically, my group arrived early today to set up and rehearse and to make sure that everything was fine and working well. Then wala, when we started presenting, the internet connection went off :/ Major panic... F5-ing it didn't work, nor did opening the website in another browser. We could only rely on the ppt and the static printscreens to present. Thankfully, while at the very last slide, the internet finally decided to behave and eventually we got the website working.
So I guess the presentation didn't go as planned, but I've learnt a lesson - never to take technology for granted. So yup, like Dr Tan mentioned, Screen Casting is a great idea to 'backup' our websites instead of having still printscreens and my group will certainly be using this to back up for the final presentation, just in case history repeats itself (hope not!).
That said, I remain an optimistic soul :) and am really glad that the presentation proceeded fairly well (though I'm certain it could have been better!) Lastly, without the collaborative efforts of my group members and the chemistry that we share, we wouldn't have been able to pull through. So yup, special thanks to my group members!! :)
P.S. Dr Tan, you mentioned that using copyrighted music/video from Youtube is not advisable. Similarly if we do a screen casting of a copyrighted website, is is considered an infringement? Thanks!
It is a copyright infringement if you take something from the website and use it unlawfully. This could mean profiting from the screencast, claiming the website to be your own or some other deed. You are doing none of these.
ReplyDeleteInstead you are using this for instructional purposes (you can take advantage of that clause in most copyright statements) and might even be providing positive publicity for the website.
The best thing you can do is read the usage policies of the site is there is one and to contact the website owner to let them know your intent.
Thank you Dr Tan! I had the same question as well. =)
