Part B

As you look into the possible future of the educational landscape, what sort of impressions, fears, or possibilities crossed your mind?
I do not have a good impression of the possible future of the educational landscape after watching
Singapore's iN2015 vision. I was thinking of the multi-tasking ability that the future techology enables them, will cause a lot of unwanted accidents happen. It is true that the neuroplasticity in human's brains will cause our future generation to have sharper thinking skills and keener senses, but I do not believe that they would be so well evolved/adapted that they would be like the Matrix and multi-task to the point that they can accomplish e.g. driving, talking to client and checking out for parking lots at the same time.
One more thing that I would be worried about is with the advancing of Technology, how much more damage is the Earth and its resources are going to receive at the end of the day. How much waste and how much more raw resources can we dig out to tap on? With the multi-tasking of humans along with the advancement of technology, it means the pace of life being fast forward as well, and the intake of resources per day would increase in relative ratio to the amount of tasks accomplished in a day compared to a day 5 years before.
- What might living, learning and working be like in the future?
Honestly speaking, I dare not think about this question. But I sincerely hope it will not be too far fetched from what we have now. Technology aside, I think core moral and social values should be considered and well inculcated within the community, so we will not lose so much of our humanity.
- How is NIE preparing you to prepare your students for this possible future? How might you prepare yourself?
I'm not too keen about this possible future. I have a neutral stand that takes things as they come but should they cross the line of human values and humanity, then I would be foreseeing myself going against Technology advancement in Education. This is my personal stand.
